{"id":8755,"date":"2021-11-03T21:55:12","date_gmt":"2021-11-03T21:55:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/TheNextWeb=1371996"},"modified":"2021-11-03T21:55:12","modified_gmt":"2021-11-03T21:55:12","slug":"australia-sets-itself-up-as-the-laughing-stock-of-cop26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.londonchiropracter.com\/?p=8755","title":{"rendered":"Australia sets itself up as the laughing stock of COP26"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It\u2019s that time again, the UN conference on climate change <a href=\"https:\/\/ukcop26.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">COP26<\/a>, is on again in Glasgow. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Attendees arrive by train, ride in<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.stagecoachgroup.com\/media\/news-releases\/2021\/2021-11-02.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&nbsp;double-decker electric buses<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, and receive escort by police riding modified electric <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.visordown.com\/news\/general\/cop26-use-harley-davidson-livewire-electric-motorcycles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Harley-Davidson LiveWire motorcycles<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Yep, you read that right.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">For example,&nbsp;<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2021-03-18\/electric-vehicle-tax-a-disincentive-to-go-green\/13258232\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">in Victoria<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, owners of plug-in hybrid vehicle incur a charge for an indexed fee of 2 cents per kilometer. The charge for any other electric vehicles is an indexed fee of 2.5 cents per kilometer.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The argument behind this ludicrous move is that buyers aren\u2019t paying fuel excise (tax from the cost of gas), a small amount of which funds road infrastructure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It\u2019s like taxing people who give up Coca-Cola for not bringing in income from the sugar lobby. Never mind the other benefits of carbon reduction, like reduced health costs from improved air quality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If this astonishing move isn\u2019t bad enough, breathe in, it gets worse.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">COP this: you can subsidize a gas-guzzling ute&nbsp;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Back in March 2020, the Australian federal government unveiled a stimulus package worth $17.6 billion. No wonder utes are&nbsp;<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canstar.com.au\/car-insurance\/top-10-selling-cars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Australia\u2019s top-selling cars<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">This kinda thing passes through parliament using rhetoric about \u201csaving Australian jobs.\u201d But let\u2019s be clear, Australia\u2019s automotive industry started dying decades ago, with <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2017\/10\/20\/news\/australia-gm-holden-last-car\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">the last car made in the country in 2017<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Australia\u2019s top-selling utes aren\u2019t even <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.news.com.au\/technology\/innovation\/motoring\/motoring-news\/states-of-origin-where-your-car-is-really-built\/news-story\/ca1a56a4694c8f99a1961de4a23c7759\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">made<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&nbsp;in Australia<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. \u2014 I mention this deliberately as the biggest innovation in auto manufacturing in Australia right now are probably the&nbsp;<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/h2xglobal.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">H2X Global<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&nbsp;powered by <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/are-hydrogen-fuel-cells-the-future-of-green-transport-sorta\"><span>hydrogen<\/span>&nbsp;<\/a>and the&nbsp;<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ace-ev.com.au\/ace-yewt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Ace Yewt<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> EV ute. It\u2019s part of a gradual transition from an iron ore producer to a green renewables and resources company.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Just before COP26, the company shared a deal to become the <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/ffi.com.au\/news\/fortescue-future-industries-signs-agreement-with-jcb-and-ryze-hydrogen-to-become-united-kingdoms-largest-supplier-of-green-renewable-hydrogen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">biggest supplier of green hydrogen<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&nbsp;to the UK and previously signed an MOU to deliver&nbsp;<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/ffi.com.au\/news\/global-liquid-hydrogen-consortium-established-to-develop-supply-chain-between-australia-and-japan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">hydrogen into Japan<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&nbsp;Look, I\u2019m not under any illusion that business tax credits aren\u2019t a heavily contributing factor.I don\u2019t think that we\u2019ll ever see the demise of the parent coal company.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">I also would like countries to produce their own green hydrogen rather than importing it.
