Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities, but disturbingly enough, the owner blames the FSD for causing the crash. Specifically, the car kept entering the wrong lane and didn\u2019t respond to driver input.<\/p>\n<p>This is the driver\u2019s statement on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhtsa.gov\/vehicle\/2021\/TESLA\/MODEL%252520Y%252520%2525205-SEAT\/SUV\/RWD#safety-ratings-frontal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">NHTSA\u2019s official page<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"11\">\n<p><span>The Vehicle was in FSD Beta mode and while taking a left turn the car went into the wrong lane and I was hit by another driver in the lane next to my lane. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The car gave an alert 1\/2 way through the turn so I tried to turn the wheel to avoid it from going into the wrong lane but the car by itself took control and forced itself into the incorrect lane creating an unsafe maneuver putting everyone involved at risk. And frightening, to be honest.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve seen previously FSD causes Teslas to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=DSi2VYzk9FM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">attempt to enter wrong lanes<\/a>, and <span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=GlIdu7prsAw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">disengage the featur abruptly<\/a>, but to withhold control of the car? That\u2019s a first.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A driver should always be able to take control the vehicle and steer it out of a dangerous situation, and FSD is supposed to deactivate when force is applied to the wheel.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Extra worries for NHTSA<\/h3>\n<p>While NHTSA needs to further investigate the accident and validate the complaint (in case it\u2019s a fake report), this incident will only add to the agency\u2019s trust issues with Tesla software if the allegations are found to be true.<\/p>\n<p>In October, Tesla recalled <span>nearly 11,704 vehicles after identifying a software error that could cause a false forward-collision warning or unexpected activation of the automatic emergency brake system.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In its <a href=\"https:\/\/static.nhtsa.gov\/odi\/rcl\/2021\/RCLRPT-21V846-7836.PDF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">safety recall report<\/a>, the agency said that Tesla <span>\u201cuninstalled FSD 10.3 after receiving reports of inadvertent activation of the automatic emergency braking system\u201d and then \u201cupdated the software and released FSD version 10.3.1 to those vehicles affected.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"13.151515151515\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Seeing some issues with 10.3, so rolling back to 10.2 temporarily.<\/p>\n<p>Please note, this is to be expected with beta software. It is impossible to test all hardware configs in all conditions with internal QA, hence public beta.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Elon Musk (@elonmusk) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1452345284483235841?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">October 24, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And let\u2019s not forget that NHTSA in August <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/against-tesla-transport-authorities-a-toothless-tiger\">opened a probe<\/a> on <span>Tesla\u2019s Autopilot software, citing the cars\u2019 repeated collisions with parked first-responder vehicles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>So, how can we not mistrust Tesla\u2019s semi-autonomous software?
