It&#8217;s nearly impossible to discover useful information these days (outside the ArchWiki).<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Edward Snowden (@Snowden) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Snowden\/status\/1460666075033575425?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">November 16, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>In what, to this reporter, appears to be a very strange flex, Barry Schwartz quote-tweeted Snowden and called on fellow search engine expert and Google employee Danny Sullivan to opine on the matter:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"4.7272727272727\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Does he know something we don&#8217;t know \ud83d\udc40 cc <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dannysullivan?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">@dannysullivan<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/e0Ght5N9EU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/t.co\/e0Ght5N9EU<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Barry Schwartz (@rustybrick) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rustybrick\/status\/1460688104839389194?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">November 16, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>I don\u2019t understand exactly what\u2019s happening here, but it looks like marketing. All I know, is that Edward Snowden was having no part of it.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"16.096875\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">No, I definitely mean search engines (among others), and Google is the worst by far, even w\/o poor results: <\/p>\n<p>*inaccessible to anyone who cares about their privacy (improper Tor blocking)<br \/>*hostile, scripts-required captchas<br \/>*page redirect for mandatory, scripts-required cookie<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Edward Snowden (@Snowden) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Snowden\/status\/1460707759326957584?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">November 16, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><b>Background: <\/b><span>I should make it clear that when I refer to Schwartz and Sullivan as underground rulers, I\u2019m paying them a compliment. They\u2019re experts on what they do \u2013 which is search marketing or buzzword unification or something. Nobody knows!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But Edward Snowden\u2018s proclivity against mincing words is a sight to behold when he expands on his initial response with bullet points, tips, and pre-emptive replies to unspoken excuses. SEO. Jargon. Whatever. If you\u2019re reading this because someone at TNW figured out the secret handshake for getting Google\u2018s Search algorithm to pick us up for this news cycle, good for Google and TNW.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But I\u2019m not sure if I should be telling the next generation of journalists to take marketing or communications courses.
