He calls it \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jeroenvandermost.com\/the-bipartisan-president\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">the Bipartisan President<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span>Jeroen van der Most (aka Most) used <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/neural\/2020\/05\/29\/openais-new-text-generator-writes-sad-poems-and-corrects-lousy-grammar\/\">the GPT-3 language model<\/a> to generate a series of politically-neutral slogans. He then fused them with a nightmarish morph of Donald Trump\u2018s and Joe Biden\u2019s&nbsp;faces uttering peak-centrist platitudes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"vimeo-player\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/474662010\" width=\"640\" height=\"640\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Producing the taglines&nbsp;was a pretty laborious process. Most began&nbsp;it by feeding&nbsp;GPT-3 the following three prompts:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u201cTagline ideas for a conservative political campaign;\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cTagline ideas for a liberal political campaign:\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cTagline ideas for a bipartisan political campaign:\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>But the model struggled to understand the categories. For instance, when asked for a liberal tagline, it might respond with \u201cLower taxes, bigger military.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That didn\u2019t sound right to Most, so he selected only the taglines that he personally considered conservative, liberal, or bipartisan.<\/p>\n<p>Most then validated his choices by running them through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uclassify.com\/browse\/politimind\/liberal-or-conservative?input=Text\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">an existing algorithm<\/a> that tries to determine whether a text extract was written by a conservative or a liberal. Win the future<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>2. Moving America forward<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>3. Renewing the American<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Most then again applied the existing&nbsp;algorithm to double-check that the outputs scored on both the liberal and conservative scales. Finally, he&nbsp;checked whether the outputs had already been used by lobby groups or political initiatives by running them through <a href=\"https:\/\/serpapi.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">a Google Search API<\/a>. If the taglines didn\u2019t appear within the first results, they were added to the list.<\/p>\n<p>He says the bipartisan&nbsp;slogans evaded concrete policy themes, such as the \u201cclimate crisis\u201d or&nbsp;\u201cstrengthening the military.\u201d Instead, they express broad and quasi-inspirational sentiments that contain little of substance.<\/p>\n<p>Most says the next steps could be using AI to write new bipartisan policies or developing&nbsp;a tool that provides warnings when a politician is evading questions.
