{"id":976,"date":"2020-11-09T13:15:05","date_gmt":"2020-11-09T13:15:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/?p=1327225"},"modified":"2020-11-09T13:15:05","modified_gmt":"2020-11-09T13:15:05","slug":"lotus-ditching-hybrid-drivetrain-for-all-electric-power-in-upcoming-suv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.londonchiropracter.com\/?p=976","title":{"rendered":"Lotus ditching hybrid drivetrain for all-electric power in upcoming SUV"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><span>British sports car maker Lotus is changing its tune in more ways than one as it prepares to launch an all-electric SUV in the next few years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>What was originally pegged to be powered by a hybrid drivetrain, Lotus\u2018 upcoming SUV code-named \u201cLambda\u201d will reportedly be entirely battery powered, featuring two electric motors,<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autocar.co.uk\/car-news\/new-cars\/electric-lotus-suv-due-2022-750bhp-360-mile-range\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span>Autocar writes<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Two variants are planned for the Lamda, a 600 horsepower base model and a 750 horsepower flagship. Current estimates suggest the vehicle will have a range of over 360 miles, although engineers have their eyes on increasing that number if possible. As such, the SUV is expected to go toe-to-toe with the likes of the Tesla Model X.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>[Read:<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/shift\/2020\/11\/05\/what3words-is-about-to-make-millions-of-car-satnavs-more-accurate-and-easier-to-use\/\"><span> What3words is about to make millions of car satnavs more accurate and easier to use<\/span><\/a><span>]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Hardcore Lotus fans might be concerned about the brand\u2019s transition to making bigger, heavier, less sporty vehicles \u2014 characteristics that are decidedly un-Lotus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But the playing field is changing, with gasoline vehicles set to be banned in the near future, the Norfolk-based carmaker needs to move with the times like every other car brand and pivot to low emission drivetrains. It needs to go electric.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Thankfully, though, those in charge are well aware of how Lotus made its name and what drivers expect from its cars.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Despite being owned by Geely, the Chinese multinational that also owns Volvo and Polestar, development of the Lambda is being led by Lotus\u2018 engineers based in Hethel, Norfolk. Even with a heavy battery, engineers are focusing on making the Lambda as light as it can possibly be.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autocar.co.uk\/car-news\/motor-shows-beijing-motor-show\/lotus-suv-will-put-brand-more-luxury-market\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span>In 2017, Geely\u2019s head of design Peter Horbury said<\/span><\/a><span>: \u201cI\u2019m sure if you\u2019re calling it a Lotus, it has to be the lightest it can be of that genre.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Lotus\u2018 SUV comes as part of a continued investment from its parent company, and also brings with it aspirations of growing its sales, particularly in the US and China. The company hopes the SUV will help it triple its annual sales from 1,500 to 5,000 units.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Lotus is already seeing successes with its growth plans.
